Luis and Julia were an absolute joy to host. They were very hard workers and were able to take on any project we had for them. They were independent, consistent, contentious, and communicated well. Some projects they helped us with were weeding, planting trees, chopping firewood, stacking firewood (our sheds are beautifully organized and full for the coming winter!), planting the garden, pollinating fruit trees. Luis was very helpful with working with our carpenter in building an addition on our tiny house and had lots of skills. We only wish they could have stayed longer! Thank you both for your generous contribution of time and energy to our project.

Stephen is an absolute gem of a human. He popped into the homestead for just a few short days as he was passing through, but his impact was big! He worked long full days way over the 4 hours and did it with a warmth and positivity. He had great initiative, communication and I trusted him fully with everything he worked on, from mowing, weeding, to helping clean and organize the garage and a little camper. We got so much done in the short time he was here and had fun doing it. He is sweet, bright and grateful human being and is welcome back anytime. I was lucky to have his presence and help for a few days.

Eva and Jerry are amazing people and hosts! They treated us super well since the first moment we arrived in Matapalo and they were doing their best to make us feel like at home. The house is really big and only a 5-10' walk from the beach - the area is pretty calm and safe, you're going to meet mostly horses and other animals on your way to the beach. The work is also very interesting and not tiring at all. Wifi works perfectly in the house, there's fans - A/C, kitchen utensils, a small pool and the best dog, Henk. If you're looking for a fun and memorable experience, we totally recommend this workaway :)

Staying at this farm was absolutely beautiful. Despite arriving in the winter, I totally enjoyed every single day. Somerset is a gorgeous region and the Sanctuary made me feel very peaceful. Everyone there has a big heart and is very welcoming. It was a pleasure to be part of such a nice tribe. :) The animals are adorable, I truly enjoyed helping and spending time with the animals, with the family, the other volunteers, and myself. I stayed at a gorgeous caravan named Doris ;) It was dreamy and very comfortable. I could see a beautiful starry sky every night while being surrounded by nature, it was amazing. The tasks demanded a lot of energy and physical activity and I loved it because I love tobe active and I am an outdoors person. The work felt right for me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is very energetic and doesn't mind getting dirty. :) For sure, there were some harsh moments due to the inclement weather, but even that was fun and interesting to experience (haha yes the mud was fun!). The tasks include feeding the animals, cleaning stables, nursing them sometimes, moving things and animals around, putting them to bed, and checking that everything is going smoothly. I did not want to leave :( Initially, I was going to stay 2 months but I ended up staying almost 3 and I am coming back sometime in the future! I miss everyone so much but I am grateful for having made these connections, having interacted with all the animals and, especially having had the opportunity to help while enjoying a very peaceful and fulfilling day to day. It was such an inspiration to see how Bex, Katherine, and Teresa ran the Sanctuary and to feel all that love and effort. I look forward to creating one place like this farm in the future. :) Thanks a lot and see you later!! =^.^= Xxx

Hannah was a fantastic addition to the family. She is very helpful, works beyond what is expected, bakes yummie cakes, laughs easily, plays with the grandchildren and knows what she is doing. Have a lovely time with your next host, Hannah.

With a friend, Camille, we stayed at Cam and Jeanne for two weeks. It was our first workaway and it was so great! We helped mostly with the garden and cleaning. We hope to see some pictures of the ferns, the river and the garden in general :) Cam and Jeanne are wonderful people and we had a lot of fun. We loved to listen to all your stories. Thank you for having us, the cooking and teaching us crib. Also, Gambier Island is a beautiful area with wild trails and beaches, as well as a wide varieties of animals that you can spot. Thanks for the other workawayers we met, Rhea and Eliott, with whom we also had a lot of fun with you. We recommand you to give it a try! :)

Staying as a volunteer on the ostrich farm was an incredible experience! Collecting eggs was both exhilarating and educational, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the intricacies of ostrich farming. Spending time with Indie, the farm's adorable dog, added an extra layer of joy to my days. The camaraderie among the volunteers was great, creating a supportive and welcoming atmosphere. Overall, it was an enriching experience filled with learning and laughter. I highly recommend volunteering at this ostrich farm to anyone looking for a unique and fulfilling adventure! Thanks to Gall and Stelvio for the opportunity!

We spent a month volunteering here, and our experience was absolutely incredible. The people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like a part of their culture and community from the moment we arrived. Alansito, Maria's son, quickly became our closest companion, providing endless opportunities to practice our Spanish while having fun together. Leslie was an outstanding guide, assisting us with every task and ensuring we absorbed as much of the local culture as possible. Maria's passion for her project was infectious, motivating us to contribute our best efforts throughout our stay. We feel incredibly fortunate to have formed such meaningful relationships with these amazing individuals. Our volunteer tasks were diverse and immensely rewarding, ranging from farm work to learning the art of spice and cheese production. We also played a role in making education more accessible for local children and helped develop digital communication strategies for the association. This experience was transformative on both a personal and professional level, offering us the chance to step out of our comfort zones and acquire valuable new skills. The non-touristy nature of the area provided a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, allowing us to immerse ourselves in local events, cuisine, and language. We developed a deep affection for the people we met, who are dedicated to making a positive impact on their community in numerous ways. They truly deserve all the support they can get. We wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking personal growth and the chance to make a difference.

Due to a change of plans, I stayed at Sadro's house instead of the hotel. In my opinion, this was and is much better, as you get to know the cultural exchange and the surroundings much better. I was there for two weeks and during that time we visited schools to explain the problems of plastic waste to the children in a kind of presentation. It was a lot of fun and I felt that I really had an impact on the children and the school. As the organization is still new and Sadro is therefore still inexperienced, it was very nerve-wracking at the beginning. Sadro is very motivated to make Kasese a better and, above all, cleaner place, but instead of planning certain actions, he likes to tackle things spontaneously and without thinking. This caused me a lot of stress at the beginning because a lot of work was left to me and I felt like I was running a lot of the organization on my own. Despite everything, it helped me a lot personally and I think Sadro was also able to learn a lot. I can definitely recommend this workaway, as you can achieve a lot here. And even if everything still seems very new and unplanned, as a volunteer you can help with the further expansion of the organization.

José - what a legend! Such a gentleman from the start of our stay and throughout. Nothing is too much trouble, he catered for our dietary needs and was more than accommodating and understanding of our fussiness!! José is an incredible cook and all of the food we had was absolutely delicious. José is warm, kind, generous, hilarious, intelligent and caring. Being around him is a treat and if you have the opportunity to stay with him - then you must. We chatted about all sorts of things and he was very patient with our ‘porquito’ Espanol! We had the pleasure of meeting some of José’s ‘amigos’ who quickly became our friends too, especially Raquel and Pablo who showed us around Zaragoza. A wonderful evening. We also had the luxury of hearing friends from Argentina play and sing along with José playing his saxophone - another special moment. José is one of a kind and we will miss spending our time with him and the lovely Yolanda who is a joy with the most beautiful smile 😊. The other Workawayers who we met (Augustin and Ana) were also so friendly and welcoming. We loved speaking with them and working out what each other were trying to say - so much fun. We tackled a large hedge and trimmed the whole length of this during our stay, a great feeling to have finished this on time. Thank you so much for hosting and sharing your lives with us. We hope to return someday soon 👋💕

This was my first workaday and the hostel exceeded any expectation that I had, it was too perfect! Shantanu was super laid back and supportive which suited the environment of the hostel and he gave me the freedom to be creative and get stuck into any work around the hostel! The hostel itself is incredibly beautiful, had a homely feel and every element was well thought out and had such a personal touch to it. The views (esp at sunrise!) from the hostel were magical, food was exceptional and the best part of my workaway were the staff. There is an amazing team working at the hostel ensuring everything runs smoothly and even though there was a language barrier, I managed to connect, laugh and joke around with the staff and they really became my family! Thank you Shantanu for the opportunity to volunteer, I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my workaway journey and end my trip in India!

As soon as Lea Yen arrived at ours, it felt as though she had always been with us. Lea Yen is gentle and empathetic, which made us feel at home with her right away. She is thoughtful and considerate, which made it easy to communicate our needs around the house. We really enjoyed having all kinds of conversations, walking the dog together, playing with our daughter, hanging out with our friends and neighbours, and more! Lea Yen kept our house clean and tidy and our bellies full :-) Her creative vegan cooking brought yumminess into our home and her adventurous stories a smile to our face. We are really grateful to have met Lea Yen and would welcome her back to our home anytime. All the best on your journey! With love, Sarah, Pascal, Maya and Vinnie
